About the Author

Noel Doig

Dr. Noel Doig is a London Scot, educated at St. Paul's School, Hammersmith, and at Magdalen College, Oxford. He took his clinical training at the Middlesex Hospital in London, where after qualifying, he practiced as a junior surgeon. Following compulsory service as a medical officer in the RAMC, he worked as a general practitioner in rural Essex. In 1958, he emigrated to Saskatchewan, Canada, establishing general practices first in rural Saskatchewan and then in Saskatoon. His work for the profession included chairing the Legislative Committee of the Saskatchewan Medical Association for 12 years and its Member Advisory Committee for 15 years, chairing the Discipline Committee of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Saskatchewan for 12 years, and chairing the Committee on Ethics of the Canadian Medical Association for five years. He and his wife, Dr. Joan Doig, who taught English at the University of Saskatchewan, retired together in 1998. They have five children, two of whom have followed him into a medical career.
