David Dilks

David Dilks was Vice-Chancellor of the University of Hull, England, from 1991 to 1999, and before that Professor of International History at the University of Leeds for more than twenty years. As a young man, he worked for a number of those who had been close to Sir Winston, including Sir Anthony Eden, Mr. Harold Macmillan, Marshal of the Royal Air Force Lord Tedder, Mr. R. A. Butler and Sir Alexander Cadogan. Professor Dilks served as President of the International Committee for the History of the Second World War, 1992 – 2000, is the author of numerous books and articles and is now engaged on the second volume of the authorized biography of Neville Chamberlain. He has been a frequent visitor to Canada, not least as guest speaker at meetings of the several Churchill Societies, and was for many years chairman of the Canadian Studies Centre at Leeds University.
