Elise Agnes Elliott, 1926-1996, was born in Liverpool, England and during the Second World War was evacuated to Edmonton, Alberta. After the war she served in the Women's Royal Naval Service. She emigrated to Canada in the 1950s and married James Blakely Corbet, 1916-1971, a Calgary lawyer. Corbet earned a Master's degree in Canadian History at the University of Calgary and undertook a career as a consulting historian. Among her books were Frontiers of Medicine : A History of Medical Education and Research at the University of Alberta (1990), Look to the Spine : The History of Chiropractic in Alberta (1995), Breaking New Ground : A Century of Farm Equipment Manufacturing on the Canadian Prairies (with Don Wetherell, 1993) and Winter Sports in the West (with A. W. Rasporich, 1990). She served as President of the Chinook Country Historical Society, Historical Society of Alberta and Chairman of the City of Calgary Heritage Advisory Board. She was also Chairman of the Riverside Villa Association and was a director and vice-chairman of the Alberta Historical Resources Foundation. She and her husband had one son, James Blakely Corbet.
