Alberto Choy

Alberto Choy, MD, FRCPC, completed his psychiatric training with a fellowship in forensic psychiatry at the University of Toronto, sub-specializing in sexual offenders and risk assessment. He was employed at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health in Toronto in the Sexual Behaviours Clinic and in the original mental health court in Toronto. He has served as a consultant to the Toronto Police Service (Sex Crimes Unit, Threat Assessment Unit, and the Emergency Task Force for on-site crisis negotiations); the Ontario Provincial Police, Behavioural Sciences Section; the Edmonton Police Service, Tactical Unit; and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. With the police services, crisis, and hostage negotiation organizations, and through the Universities of Toronto and Alberta, he has provided courses and lectures nationally and internationally on various aspects of mental disorder and violence, psychopathy, risk assessment and treatment, crisis intervention, and crisis negotiation.
