Doug Carrick and his wife, Sheila, have owned their Hornby Island property for twenty-seven years and have been retired there for fifteen years. Having the eagle family begin nesting behind their house opened up a new interest, and being a retired accountant, Doug was compelled to keep accurate records. He had thought of writing a book on these eagles earlier, but spent too much time watching them in the cameras installed in the tree. In the winter of 2006/2007, however, severe storms knocked out the cameras, and that turned out to be a blessing. — “It’s an ill wind that blows no good.” — It enabled him to devote the winter to writing this book.
