About

National H. Canadas

CANADA’S NATIONAL HISTORY SOCIETY is the premier history society in Canada, with some 50,000 members. It was founded over eighteen years ago by the Hudson’s Bay Company to, among other things, continue publication of The Beaver magazine (now called Canada’s History), first established by the company in 1920 as an employee newsletter to celebrate its 250 years of existence. With the continuing support of HBC, Canada’s History Society has expanded its operations to include Kayak: Canada’s History Magazine for Kids, extensive online educational and travel resources via CanadasHistory.ca, and the Governor General’s History Awards, which annually recognize historians, teachers, museums and community organizations, as well as writers and media producers, for their contributions to furthering Canadians’ exploration of their past.
