Akosua Joy Brown has worked in the publishing industry for over 25 years. She started out working on academic science titles within the UK’s University of London where she edited and wrote books about human exposure to toxins. Since moving back to Canada, she worked with Canada’s largest educational publisher on K-12 non-fiction products. Following that, through her work with one of Toronto’s top international literary agencies, she became an avid editor of fiction. She formed What’s Your Story – Author Services to support writers working in all genres. She helps people write, publish, distribute, and sell their books and is an experienced workshop presenter and facilitator. Akosua is also a best-selling author of many books including a Silver Birch nominated children’s book.
Akosua has seen how important sharing your voice, your story is. It is one way of being seen and heard. But she’s also learned how valuable writing is to understand yourself. To do your best writing, you must feel safe and Akosua excels in creating that space for those around her. She extends that search for feeling safe and being seen, celebrated, and supported through her work with Elvira’s Miracle Magnet Movement. She is excited to be one of the newest mentors. She gained so much from this program that she changed her name to reflect her greater self-love and compassion.
Akosua is a new Hamiltonian. She lives in a lovely century home with two of her six children, her too-loud husband, Paul, their three cats, a highly intelligent and grumpy cockapoo, and a canary called Romeo.
