SONYA BELL grew up obsessed with the Scholastic book fair at her school in Barrie. Her professional writing career began in journalism, with bylines appearing in dozens of publications including The Guardian (UK) and Maclean's magazine (Canada). Her comedy writing for This Hour Has 22 Minutes earned her a Canadian Comedy Award.

She and her wife live in Toronto with their two young sons and a service dog named Scout.
