Caroline Morton is a young widow; unemployed, depressed, and hoping to get her life back on track by writing a novel about her family history. But after a year, she hasn't written the first chapter. Carolyn Jean Nicholson was born in Nova Scotia and has lived in the Maritimes all her life. She often travels back to the Isle of Skye, Scotland, the origin of her Nicolson ancestors. She worked in the health information management field and taught in post-secondary education before becoming a minister in The United Church of Canada. She is now retired and follows in her mother's footsteps, researching her ancestors and writing novels.

Carolyn Nicholson has cleverly woven together the stories of her ancestors and present day family, resulting in an insightful and charming adventure that brings to life something all genealogical researchers crave, to better know their people.
