As a Mohawk matriarch living in up-state New York during the American Revolutionary War, Molly Brant became one of the most important of the United Empire Loyalists as she persuaded five of the Six Nations to remain loyal to Britain and immigrate to Canada, settling first on Carleton Island and eventually in Kingston, Ontario. This book is the first full-scale biography of one of North America's "first" women. A monument has been erected in her honor at the site of her home on the shores of the Cataraqui River, next to the house of her brother, Joseph Brant.
