Editorial Reviews
Self-help book from Upon A Star Books geared to young adults
There are some great things to think about while reading The Key to Happiness by Ashley-Ann Pereira ($17.95, Upon A Star Books), a self-help book for young adults.
The Toronto resident is a motivational speaker and cofounder of Dreams Inc., an initiative that empowers youth to incorporate their dreams into their lives. Pereira, along with Cassandra Angelicchio, created the #EmbraceYourStory movement, a YouTube interview series with the goal of creating conversations about obstacles young adults face including mental health and lack of direction.
In The Key to Happiness, Pereira suggests people need to remember their battles as they read her book and eventually they, too, will practice “forgiveness, self-awareness, self-love, gratitude and celebration.” “
This book is not meant to be a memoir; it’s meant to give you a new perspective,” Pereira writes in the chapter titled Intention. “To give you tools to release emotions that aren’t serving you.”
While a terrible part of me, and one I was surprised even existed, attempted to dismiss Pereira’s words and journey simply because of her age, the smarter me continued reading and realized that Pereira offered great information on how you can let go of past hurts and create and celebrate the person you want to be.
Most chapters offered a question at the end and left a space where you could write down how you plan to recharge or batteries or list your core values. I particularly liked the chapters about living your life to the fullest and remembering to celebrate your achievements.
Regardless of your journey, or which stage of it you are at, Pereira offers some great ideas on how you also can find happiness.
