About the author

Louise Nichols teaches English literature at the Université de Moncton. Fifteen years ago, she became interested in 19th-century women who married merchant sea captains and joined them on their vessels for long voyages, sometimes even with children. Her research in this area has focused on a study of the letters and diaries written by captains' wives. She lives in Sackville, New Brunswick.
