Describing the unfolding of a single day in parallel with the seasons of the year, this poetry collection explores the human journey. From the dawn of the day to the last light of dusk, the author recalls voices that have fallen silent and uses lines full of imagery to evoke the stages of their lives, their secret songs and calls for help, torn between joy and pain, certainty and doubt, revolt and acceptance. With lucid understanding, the author uses the stories of her characters' lives to define her own more clearly. The French edition of this book, "Passerelles", won the 2010 Trillium Literary Award for Poetry in French.

Poet, playwright and novelist, MICHÈLE MATTEAU, has studied education and psychology, has been a teacher and a journalist. She has lived in Quebec, France, British Columbia, Nova Scotia and since 1985, in Ottawa. Following the "Quatour pour cordes sensible", her first fiction novel, she published a trilogy, "À ta santé, la vie!" which was a great success among critics. The first volume, "Cognac et Porto", won the Trillium Literary Award in 2001, while the third volume, "Un doigt de brandy dans un verre de lait chaud", won the Christine-Dimitriu-van-Saanen prize in 2005. She has managed the "Vertiges" collection of Les Éditions L'Interligne from 2009 to 2013.

DONALD WINKLER was born in Winnipeg, graduated from the University of Manitoba, and as a Woodrow Wilson Scholar, did graduate study at the Yale School of Drama. From 1967 to 1995 he was a film director and writer at the National Film Board of Canada in Montreal, and since the 1980s, a translator of Quebec literature. In 1994, 2011, and 2013 he won the Governor General Award for French to English translation, and has been a finalist for the prize on two other occasions. He lives in Montreal.
