Description
Lily’s Desert Adventure is the second book in a first reader’s bible series that tells the story of the life of Jesus through the eyes of a little donkey named Lily. In the first book, Lily’s Secret, the carrot-munching, care-free Lily overcomes her initial fear and self-doubt of her ability to fulfill a huge responsibility, to safely carry Mary and Jesus, the unborn child, to Bethlehem. Once Lily successfully completes her task and Baby Jesus had been born, she thinks they can all go home. But when the Wisemen visit the Holy Family, she senses that something has changed.
In the darkest hour of the night, Joseph wakes her and says they have to hurry to a strange new land to keep Jesus safe. She is off to the desert, her journey still far from over, and another adventure begins.
About the author
Contributor Notes
Author Cindy Tingley was born in a little village in New Brunswick called Point de Bute near the Nova Scotia border where she lived for 16 years. She moved around New Brunswick during her high school years finally settling in Fredericton.
After high school Tingley met and settled down with her partner and for many years they ran a farm, produced lumber and raised their own beef while working on rural community development projects. She remembers being interested and excited about writing as early as eight years old but life was busy and writing only became a priority in more recent years.
She began writing the Lily series of children’s bible stories almost ten years ago and feels now is the time to re-ignite the message of bringing peace to a fractured world. Lily’s Secret, launched in 2017, is the first in the series and Lily’s Desert Adventure, the second, launches in 2019.
Tingley has lived in Halifax since November 2013. Along with writing every day, she likes to drum, sing (she was with the You Gotta Sing Chorus in Halifax for 4 years), walk and hang out with good people who raise her up.

Chapter 1
As Lily and The Holy Family started the next leg of their great adventure together, Lily thought about how much she would miss Cali. But she was learning that her new family was the most important thing to her because they all needed to help Baby Jesus. After all, He was here to bring love into the world and that was a big job. Babies are so special because they carry the ‘heaven know’ in their hearts. God’s angels were walking beside, beneath and above the little band of travellers as they headed for Egypt. The one thing Lily had learned a long time ago was that Heaven’s angels and love travel together. They are always here to protect, guide and keep everyone safe. Each one has a different job to do, just as humans and animals do. If we were all the same, it would be no fun at all. Children and animals have a very special energy about them because sometimes they can see angels and other helpers even when grown-ups can’t. “Is that because children carry more of Heaven in their hearts, and that they remember more of Heaven than grown-ups who have lived longer on earth?” “Good girl Lily!” she heard Baby Jesus as He heart talked. “As you know, this is why I am here on earth. After all grown-ups are just children in bigger bodies. Everyone has the heart of a child if they remember to have fun, love with all their heart and not hurt anyone.”
