A theological study about life after life.

Life Beyond Death is an academic study of the theology of life after life, examining the ways various Biblical texts talk about life after death and 'the end times.' It walks the reader through the ways the Christian tradition has interpreted life and death over the centuries.

The power of this work lies in the way Ramon Martinez de Pison demonstrates how our understanding of death has shifted. It is characterized as a medical 'failure' rather than a moment of potential 'final damnation.' In either case, fear and taboo have taken over from what the church actually teaches about not 'the' end in general, but 'our' end in particular.

RAMON MARTINEZ DE PISON is a professor in the Faculty of Theology at Saint Paul University in Ottawa. He holds a PhD in theology and a doctorate in psychology. He has published several books as well as scholarly articles in the fields of Christian anthropology, Death and the Afterlife, and Shame and Suicide. Martínez de Pisón has a particular interest in the relationship between human development and the experience of God. He is a Roman Catholic priest and a member of the religious congregation of the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate.
