A dark force has been increasingly manifesting itself after centuries of deep rooting within the prosperous soils of the archipelago known as the Philippines.
Kia and Allison are unlikely allies who arrive at the bustling city of Orkidias unaware that they will soon face one of the most notorious creatures to have ever oppressed the islands.
Kasama draws upon the author’s experiences as a tourist in his homeland, as a community volunteer in the diaspora, and as a student relearning his heritage.
About the author
Kasama is Allan Matudio's first graphic novel. Although he works professionally as a video game artist, he is a huge fan of graphic novels that have identity and ethnic representation as the core themes in the story.
Born and based in Montréal, what first started as a portfolio project became a lifelong study and engagement. Kasama went from browser searches, to buying books, to travelling to the Philippines, to volunteering with local grassroots organizations.
The complexity of the Filipino experience is a challenge that Allan wants to address through visual storytelling. He wrote this story to make the reader question their positionality in a similar way that his encounters and learnings have shattered his foundation.
