But he was always fascinated by the romanticized idea of escaping to a remote island — a notion he found both alluring and daunting. So when he found himself living in Nova Scotia, it didn't take the photographer long to notice the province's abundant coastal and freshwater islands and their unique characteristics, including varying geologies, sizes, and flora and fauna.

Adam Cornick is a freelance photographer from the UK. In 2008, in search of a fresh start, he put a finger on a map and took a leap of faith that landed him in Halifax.
