This Graham Coughtry retrospective includes a simple arangement of large figure paintings; in many of the canvases the figure is scarcely perceptible. The figure , and Coughtry's use of it, are never completely fixed, still, placed; the image appears and disappears, divides and couples, advances and recedes... A chronological examination suggests that these comings and goings of the figure have had a cyclical life over twenty years of Coughtry's work.
