Description

Just when we think we're trapped by work and obligations, Kevin Callan offers us the escape map: 20 perfect quick-getaway canoe routes in Southern Ontario. One-, two- and three-day paddles, easy on the portages, big on the rewards of nature, and not too far from our own backyard. The routes in Gone Canoeing offer a variety of experiences, from easy trips for novice paddlers to more challenging excursions for experienced canoeists. Callan takes us to some of his favorite almost-wild places, to familiar locales such as the Credit River, Bon Echo Provincial Park and Murphys Point, and to some unusual canoeing destinations -- Minesing Swamp, for one -- entertaining and informing us along the way with his trademark blend of good humor, insight and expert advice. Includes meticulous maps, detailed route descriptions, a few of the author's secret camp recipes and his own Before You Go checklist of things to pack for your weekend wilderness adventure.
