Description

Ten-year-old Ellie and her new friend, Ricky, explore the Douglas fir forest where Ellie lives, starting with the Great Tree that falls in a winter storm. With the help of Ellie’s scientist parents, they measure trees, discover numerous forest creatures, and experience the changes of seasons in the forest ecology. Delightful colored pen and ink drawings of forest habitats also tell the “forest’s story;” each chapter ends with sample pages from Ellie’s own field notebook. A separate Teacher’s Guide is available via download for classroom use, and an enhanced and interactive website will launch with the book at ellieslog.org. Ages 8–12.
