Description

The challenge of a newspaper photographer is to go into a community and capture a moment that tells the news story of the day. At The Chronicle Herald, the province's longest running newspaper, this means travelling the cities, towns, province (and sometimes the world), collecting the most important, newsworthy and emotional images of the day. Chronicle of Our Time is a collection of these images and also some stories of how they made it- and sometimes didn't make it- onto the front pages.

Photo editor Len Wagg selects the best colour photographs of the province from the newspaper's archives. This collection includes photos recalling the province's best and worst times, depictions of day-to-day life and important local figures.

The most powerful photos speak for themselves; other photos are paired with a full textual description that tells of the newsworthy event that triggered the photo, but also gives some insight into the challenges the newspaper photographer faced in capturing the perfect image. Here are examples of the work of the Chronicle-Herald's best staff photographers; the joys and the tears that occur around the province on any given day.
