Description
Documents an exhibition of temporary public art interventions that transformed the streets of Grande Prairie, Alberta in 2008.In January 2008, The Prairie Art Gallery, in Grande Prairie, Alberta presented an exhibition of video art and public interventions that brought light and mystery to the main street of the City around the clock throughout the month. Grande Prairie experiences up to 17 hours of darkness per night in winter, and the exhibition was most dramatic in the long cold nights.Curated by Edward Bader, the exhibition included works by Michael Campbell, David Hoffos, Karina Aguilera Skvirsky, Micah Lexier with Christian Bök, C. Wells, John Will, Anne Troake, and Bill Viola. The exhibition in public places was inspired by the unfortunate fact that the Prairie Art Gallery's building had collapsed under heavy snow in 2007, and the community was without an exhibition facility. The catalogue includes an essay by prominent critic Robert Enright, as well as his interviews with each of the artists.
