Cette première monographie sur le travail photographique de l’artiste Montréalaise présente l’essentiel des séries photographies créées entre 1996 et 2008. L’essai retrace les liens de la production de l’artiste avec l’histoire de la pratique photographique et se penche sur la fascination qu’exerce la cuisine photographique sur Excoffier, équivalent des pratique d’atelier en peinture. Eliane Excoffier’s photographic practice, presented here in is entirety for the first time, focuses on the female body. Through various non-digital manipulations of the image she has created an iconography that revives specific episodes in the history of photography. References to spirit photography, to Victorian erotica and to the work of key figures such as Eadweard Muybridge and Irving Penn imbue her work. Excoffier’s use of pinhole cameras and old cameras such as the Kiev 60 and the Autographic Kodak reinforce this retrospective dynamic in a work which is otherwise profoundly intimate and contemporary.
