Le jour de ses funérailles, les Américains ont éteint les lumières pendant une minute. Quand ils les ont rallumées, ils ont eu une pensée pour l'homme qui avait contribué à éclairer le monde et qui venait de les quitter à l'âge de 84 ans.

On a peine à croire qu'Elizabeth MacLeod n'a jamais pris un cours d'écriture durant ses quatre années d'études à l'Université de Toronto. Elle a préféré étudier les sciences et a reçu une mention en biologie et en botanique. Elle a été éditrice pour le magazine OWL (Hibou et Coulicou) de 1986 à 1989. Elle a écrit de nombreux livres pour enfants en anglais et on lui doit la collection intitulée Biographie sur l'histoire de Samuel de Champlain, des frères Wright, d'Alexander Graham Bell et bien d'autres.
