Description

A polar bear? No way!
There are no polar bears in Jasper!
But if it IS a polar bear, how did he get here ... and what is he looking for?

Angela, an imaginative 12-year-old girl, loves to ski and is looking forward to a fun-filled week at Jasper with her family. But she has no idea that an incredible adventure is waiting for her on the mountain.

Meanwhile, concerned about the deterioration of their habitat and their very survival, the polar bears from Northern Manitoba have decided to take matters into their own hands (er, paws).

About the author

Mercedes Montgomery grew up on a farm near Blaine Lake, Saskatchewan and became a registered nurse in Saskatoon, working in nursing education as an instructor and program head. Mercedes first wrote non-fiction works (including two histories), then short stories, but www.walkwithapolarbear.com,/i> is her first book of children's fiction. Her interest in polar bears began by chance while inventing a bedtime story for her grandchildren. Wanting to get the facts right, she visited a few websites, then a few more and came away hooked, enthralled by the polar bears' majesty, awed by their amazing adaptation to extreme Arctic conditions and concerned about their survival in an uncertain future. www.walkwithapolarbear.com is intended to spark young readers' imaginations and inspire them to discover more about the beautiful "kings of the north."
