Editorial Reviews

As a truly Canadian story of historic life in the outposts of Northwest Territories, Mystery at Shildii Rock is an interesting addition to Canadian children's literature.

CM Magazine

This is a very positive little book. Almost everyone who needs to learn something manages to do it.

The Whitehorse STAR

I really liked this book because it was charming, and not too long. The writing, the story line and the characters were all of good quality.

I would recommend Shildii Rock if you are looking for a short book that is well-written and entertaining.

Librarian Reviews

Mystery at Shildii Rock

This novel is based on events that happened to the author himself when he and his family lived in Fort McPherson and Inuvik, NWT. It incorporates the lifestyles and stories of the people of the Mackenzie Delta into an intriguing mystery. Set in the 1950s in a small northern town of mostly Aboriginal people, young Robin Harris, the son of the local RCMP officer, starts to put together several clues and events to solve a mystery and a murder that take place in their small community. Robin is aided by his friends Wayne and Tim, who have their own skills and ideas to help with the investigation. Since Robin is known for his overactive imagination, his father and other adults are not so quick to believe his theories until it is almost too late.

Feagan has written one other children’s novel, Napachee, which is also included in this catalogue.
