Description

Recommended by Curriculum Services Canada, this fun and engaging story, based on three previous children's books by David Suzuki and Eugenie Fernandes, introduces young children to environmental issues without overwhelming them.

In this beautifully illustrated story, a brother and sister go on nature adventures and discover that natural magic is all around them, even in their own home. They find an ocean in their bathroom, dinosaur breath inside their own bodies, and the past and the future in their own backyard.

Published in partnership with the David Suzuki Foundation. Also available in hardcover.

There’s a Barnyard in My Bedroom

In this book, Megan and Jamie’s exploration of the world of nature is presented in an easy-to-understand format. Divided into three sections, “Seeing the Air” explores how air feels and sounds; “Rainy Day Hike” shows that nature is present around and in the house, for example, window glass is made from sand ; “Time Travelers” delves into the past hundreds of years and into the future in the backyard garden. Related activities are incorporated into each section. A glossary and answer pages are also included. Full-page, colour illustrations enhance the adventures.

Suzuki has authored over forty books including, for children, Salmon Forest and You Are the Earth. Fernandes has illustrated more than ninety books and was a finalist for the 2006 Governor General’s Literary Award and the 2007 Amelia Frances HowardGibbon Illustrator’s Award.
